Here is a funny short story I wrote called I Hate Being Sick. Thank you for reading. See more of my writings at rejoicewithin.com. (Picture comes from pixabay.com) I Hate Being Sick! By Nickie Korpal "Ha… CHOOOOOOO!" I HATE TO BE SICK! "O No! I have a cold don’t get too close! I don’t know where it came from? I Hope Not From YOU!" "HA…CHOOOOOOO! I Hate to Be Sick!" Maybe it’s when I touch my eyes, nose or was it my mouth? When I was playing with blocks with Tommy Fuller, who was sneezing, coughing and not covering his mouth. Now I have a "HA…CHOOOOOOO…A……COLD!" "HA…CHOOOOOOO! I HATE TO BE SICK!" I sneeze all the time! Mommy said to sneeze in a tissue. O No! No tissues in sight! In my shoulder I go, "HA…CHOOOOoooooooo!" I never sneeze in my hands, unless I wash them real FAST. "HA…CHOOOOOOO! I HATE TO BE SICK!" I try never to have a pocket full of snotty tissues, It’s Sticky, SICK, and GROSS! I flush them down the toilet and say, good-bye ugly germ! "HA…CHOOOOoooooooo! I HATE TO BE SICK!" When I'm sick and feeling miserable, Mommy and Daddy hugs are always welcomed. Sometimes late at night I hear my parents pacing the floors, because my temperature went up a little. "HA…CHOOOOoooooooo! I HATE TO BE SICK!" Mommy said lot of fluid when you have a cold! Yummy! Chicken soup with lots of noodles is served on the hour. Don't forget the fruit pops, shakes and chocolate pudding to help smooth the ouches. "HA…CHOOOOoooooo! I HATE BEING SICK! Mommy cleans everything, now that I’m sick! Railings, counter tops, doorknobs and such. As I sit wrapped in a blanket all bundled up. She airs out the house, when weather permits. I cannot go outside, until I'm all better and all fixed. "Ha… CHOOOOOOO! I HATE TO BE SICK!" Finally one day, I'm feeling a hundred percent better! O Goodie! The cold germ has finally left! I hope forever? I scream with delight and hop for joy! I stop to think! Where did that bad cold germ go, after it left me? SHhhhhh……! "Beware You Could be Next?" PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THAT BAD COLD GERM! PLEASE FOLLOW MY (MOMMY) ADVICE! Germs linger here and there and everywhere, Don't be surprise if it's on your mirror. "I HATE TO BE SICK!" After going potty, wash your hands with warm water and anti-bacterial soap. While singing Happy Birthday… to you! Without complaining just washing and singing. As the germs go down the drain! "I HATE TO BE SICK!" Don't forget to take a bath or shower it helps fight those terrible germs By soaping up and washing it will make you squeaky-clean like my SQUEAK-- SQUEAK rubber duck Quack-Quack. "I HATE TO BE SICK!" Mommy said, " Eat your vegetables, fruits, protein and dairy products with every meal to make you strong like an action hero. Don’t forget to take your animal shape vitamin in the morning. They will make your body strong to fight off those terrible cold germs!" "I HATE TO BE SICK!" Mommy said, “You must always wash before and after you eat, even when cutting out sugar cookies or shredding cheese, please!” "I HATE TO BE SICK!" Don't ever share your drinking cup, straw, and silverware it causes the spread of the terrible germs. YUCK! "I HATE TO BE SICK!" I hope you take my Mommy and my advice and fight those terrible germs! "Ha… CHOOOOOOO!" O No! Someone is sneezing and coughing the cold germ is traveling! WATCH OUT it's looking for a HOST I Hope NOT YOU or ME! Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me…….. THE END Thank you for reading. I hope you liked the story.
I love doing research. You can find out so much about trivia things besides it can open up your creative juices while writing your story. You can find the answers to almost everything by just researching. You can do it all on your computer. I still love going to the research department at the library and searching on microfiche, looking through old manuals and reports. Something about having my hands on them compared to looking it up on the computer makes it more personal to me.
To get you in the mood to do research here are some questions I came up with to help get you started on doing a research project. You can use online searcher engines or go visit your local library to find the answers. Have fun.
Find a movie you love. Watch it over again but this time you will need to take notes. Write down the name of the movie, the characters or stars playing.Give a description of what the movie is all about. Write down which part you loved and write down parts you disliked. Describe the main character and down the list of characters. Describe the location/setting. Describe the villain if they have one. Watch the whole movie and write down areas you think are noteworthy. After the movie is finish look over your notes.Write a 200 or less words review. Try to write it to sell to your readers so they too would want to watch it and love like you do. Imagine you are a top blogger or news reporter, and you want to share a new research project or top news to your readers. Locate newspaper article, magazine articles or online relating this research. If it comes from a lengthy research article, you will have to cut it down to 200 or less words.Majority of readers prefer not to read page after page of research they want the writer to just get to the point. This is where you come in. You first have to catch their attention in the title of the article. Remembers the rules of writing you need a great beginning. This is where you explain what the topic about and how it relates or can help the readers. Next is the middle. The facts that lead to the research and facts to back it up. Last, the ending, it ties the whole article all together in one sentence. Expressing how important this information is to the reader. It can be a challenge in the beginning but with practice who can write like the pros.
When your characters maybe taking to themselves, or two or three or more individuals you need to learn to write dialogues. They is an art all in themselves writing dialogue.Screenplay writers are always writing in this format. When you give the readers a feel they are part of the scene while the characters are talking…this will draw them more into your writings. How many times have you read a story and the characters dialogue had to turning and turning the page to see what they will say next. Take a couple of your favorite fiction books and check out the dialogue going on.Get a feel of how it’s written. How take your journal writing book and start writing a dialogue.I even after I talked to a friend I would practice rewriting what we talked about. I always saw dialogue as a dance going back and forth. It can be poetic and the rhyme and action can all happen when two people are talking together.Practice writing dialogues.Take out the story or novel you are working on and add some dialogues.Experts do express it’s a craft but with practice you would be right up there with the pros. Don’t let others intimidate you. Just write and it will come to you.
