Petunia Slows Down
Imagine someone always rushing, in a hurry, so energetic and full of life. Now visualize two horrible monsters Mop and Sob who wants to stop this person in their tracks. That just what happens to my character Petunia in my young adult book called Petunia Slows Down.
This delightful story takes a lighthearted look at Multiple Sclerosis and how it affects someone in their daily life. In Petunia Slows Down, Multiple Sclerosis has faces, they are two ugly monsters name Mop and Sob, who try to slow the main character Petunia down. They try everything in their power like; mysterious glasses to blur her vision, sitting on her feet and poking little pins in her hands to make them numb, they hold her tongue so she slurs her words, they play mind games so Petunia would get confused. Mop and Sob even has mysterious sleepy dust to make Petunia fatigued and tired. The story continues as Mop and Sob try everything and anything to stop Petunia. They finally do it and Petunia has enough, she finds help from Dr. Hope. Dr. Hope helps Petunia stop Mop and Sob with a magical pinch therapy that gives her a bright and shiny shield like a superhero against Mop and Sob attacks. When Mop and Sob harasses Petunia they just bounce right off. Petunia gains willpower and determination from the pinch shield to finally confront Mop and Sob for the first time. Petunia learns something, that Mop and Sob are not as scary as she thought, and the biggest lesson she learns from Mop and Sob, they gave her the chance to slow down, take time to watch a sunrise, enjoy a harvest moon and take time to enjoy life. All three Petunia, Mop and Sob, creates an unusual friendship. Petunia even through she might do things slower compared to thepast, Petunia does it now with courage and acceptance of Mop and Sob in her daily life.
